Reinigung und Handhabung (Löslichkeit, Stabilität, Funktionalität) von Membranproteinen, insbesondere von Ionenkanälen. Im Mittelpunkt des Projekts wird die Produktion des humanen ether-a-gogo (hERG) Kaliumkanals stehen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei zunächst auf der Identifizierung oder Etablierung eines effizienten Expressionssystems, damit rekombinantes Protein in einer Qualität und Menge erhalten wird, welche die Benutzung zur Proteinkristallisation, aber auch für die Untersuchung von Protein/Liganden- Wechselwirkungen mittels biophysikalischer Methoden ermöglicht.
