Decentralized data capture for centralized scientific data collection: Merging clinic information systems and application service provider technology.
Abstract
(English)
The increasing application of Health Technology Assessments (HTA) for Medtech innovations has opened a new market for implementation of centralized medical registries. These registries are used to collect and evaluate observational data regarding safety and efficiency of the newly introduced treatments. Until to date, data is mostly collected in local hospital quality assurance systems or isolated data bases for reasons of easy integration into hospital workflows. The latter approach counteracts possibilities to establish benchmarks and early warning systems for implant related problems from a central data pool. The IEFO has developed soft-ware for networking all participants with the smallest common denominator, the web. Due to its necessary generic character it entails redundancies in data entry and few possibilities for parameterisation. The current project proposes an interface of a commercial, local documentation solution with the academic register soft-ware of IEFO, thereby creating a link between a commercial clinic information system and a centralized sci-entific documentation portal. The obvious advantages are unique system integration and increased effi-ciency, as well as synchronising an in-hospital data base with a central HTA data repository.
