Abstract (Englisch)	Early recognition of the development of a disease like cardiovascular disorders or cancer increases enormously the survival rate of patients and is decreasing dramatically the healing costs, accordingly the financial burdens on the health insurance system is reduced. This project aims at the development of a generally applicable strategy allowing the early discovery, detection and relative quantification of protein biomarkers in biological samples like body fluids or tissue biopsies. A two-dimensional, orthogonal protein fractionation strategy will be coupled with differential mass tagging of intact proteins prior to mass spectrometric detection of the proteins on the macromizer¿ MALDI-MS platform.
