MICRO-EDM-MILL: MICRO ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE MILLING
Abstract
(Englisch)
The aim of this project is to create new EDM machine technology dedicated to mini and micro machining of accurate cavities . The electrodes are small tubes rotating at high speed, EDM dielectric flushing through, acting as micro-milling tools. The motion of the electrodes, computed by dedicated software, generates the part geometry. The particularity of this new process is the absence of cutting strength, thus no deformation on the work piece or electrode is generated. It is then possible to machine very fine details with very high aspect ratio. The project will allow to perform a feasibility study of this new machining method, providing a prototype and first technological parameters.
