Highly Compact Robots for Power Plant Inspections
Abstract
(English)
Regular inspections of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators and boilers are of utmost importance for thepower plant safety and efficiency and are therefore a high margin business within a very competitive market. Given the significant economic losses during shut down for inspections and rigorous health and safetyregulations, it becomes more and more critical to disassemble the devices or to send personnel into theconfined spaces for inspection purposes. In the light of emerging new technologies, it becomes possible toresearch and develop highly compact robots, which can be introduced into e.g. gas turbines, and perform in-situ the condition assessments and servicing interventions. This new generation of inspection devices wouldallow the industrial partner to differentiate its services by offering fast and efficient inspectionsandinterventions.
