Ablative laser systems are successfully used for skin resurfacing applications with a growing tendency. The goal of this project is to develop the prototype of a novel handheld Er:YAG laser scanner with ablation depth measurement. Innovative technology for precise laser beam guidance and ablation depth measurement will be developed. Laser ablation is used to shoot a sequence of tiny adjacent holes with a well defined depth into the skin, whereby the holes are spread over an area. The resulting device will enable superficial dermatological interventions at high precision and at low cost.
