Optical Link FR-Field Sensor for Time and Frequency Domain Measurements (TDS)
Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
The availability of low-cost analog radio frequency (RF) and GHz digital technologies enables new products providing wireless connection, intelligent sensors as well as new possibilities for medical diagnosis and therapy. We expect that the pressure of optimizing such applications will boost new demands for electromagnetic RF tools, in particular magnetic field sensors, which provide time-domain measurement capability, isotropic response, high spatial resolution and minimal field perturbation. The objective of this project is to develop a prototype ready for commercialization based on the concept developed in the feasibility study (KTI 6091.1). This concept is based on an active optical remote sensor consisting of the following components: 1) active sensor (antenna, impedance transformer, amplifier, vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL), photovoltaic (PV) converter, 2) exclusive optical links to each sensor for sensor powering and signal transmission. The sensor shall work in a frequency range of 100MHz110 dBHz), an excellent linearity (<0.2 dB), a small size of active area (1 mm2) and reasonable production costs of <1,000 CHF per sensor channel.
