Medium Access Control for Ultra Wide band with Intelligent Interference Management
Abstract
(Englisch)
Ultra Wide Band (UWB) is an emerging wireless technology that has the potentiel to use much less power and radiation than existing ones. This potential gain can be fully exploited if UWB network access is kept efficient. A possible obstacle to efficiency in UWB networks is the medium access control, which may waste resources if it spends much time in collisions or arbitration, as is the case with the traditional methods implemented in wireless LANs. We propose to define and evaluate an alternative medium access control method for UWB that uses intelligent management of interference. Based on latest advances in coding and network theory, the method allows interference rather than forbid it. It results in a streamlined network organization, which can significantly increase the utility of the radio channel, thus reducing power and radio smog.
