DEVELOPMENT OF ANTI-WRINKLE PRODUCTS BASED ON PROTEOMIC PROFILING AND SYNTHETIC PEPTIDES INHIBITING ACETYLCHOLINE RELEASE BY NERVE CELLS
Abstract
(French)
Over a short time span, Botox (botulin toxin) has become a largely used substance for the treatment of various clinical disorders involving muscle hyperactivity and, more recently, exploited for cosmetic purposes. Even though Botox was found to be of safe use in Humans, its administration, by intra-muscular injections, remains an obstacle for its wider use. We propose to identify long synthetic peptides exhibiting features matching those of botulin toxin to be used as anti-aging and anti-wrinkle products. The long synthetic peptides will be designed to specifically block the release of acetylcholine by acting either on the vesicles involved in the exocytosis (the SNARE complex) or on specific kinases which phosphorylate proteins involved in exocytosis.
