Mechanisms of shrinkage and adhesion failure of polymer-modified adhesive mortars
Abstract
(English)
A sustainable market trend for fully vitrified and large-sized tiles requires mortars with improved adhesion properties and reduced shrinkage. With respect to adhesion, the manufacturers of redispersible polymer powders (e.g. Elotex) must deliver new products but the influence of shrinkage onto adhesion is largely unknown. The goal of this research project is to investigate mechanisms of mortar adhesion and the critical formation of shrinkage cracks at the tile-mortar interface. The industrial partner regards such knowledge as an important base to develop new products.
