Industrialisation of a Thermal Flowsensor for Hydrocephalus
Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
Hydrocephalus is one of the most common congenital disorder of the central nervous system. Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus NPH is a form of chronic hydrocephalus that typically occurs in adults who are 60 years and older. It is characterized by a triad of clinical symptoms, including dementia, gait disturbance (i.e., difficulty walking), and urinary incontinence. The treatment of hydrocephalus requires the implantation of a catheter and valve for fluid drainage. In order to improve the diagnostic of the patient¿s condition as well as to monitor the correct functioning of the implanted valve, a thermal flow-sensor (CTI project 5808.2 TNS) that can detect CSF1-flow through the shunt system will be further miniaturized and industrialized for introduction into the mar-ket. The flow-sensor will be integrated in the implanted catheter and will be interrogated by passive telemetry.
