This project addresses the development and the realization of future optical systems for angular posi-tion measurements. Angular encoders are core modules in Leica GeoSystems surveying instruments. Next generation instruments need significant smaller modules and faster read-out speed. Conse-quently the writing density of the code pattern must be increased without loosing the high angular accuracy (1').We aim to develop a novel optical system for the position reading sensor: - to improve the image formation and to overcome diffraction problems - to increase the signal-to-noise ratio for higher data rate The outcome is a bench top prototype with improved compactness and cost saving potential.
