Experimental Investigations into Resonant Blade Vibration in a Centrifugal Compressor
Abstract
(English)
Centrifugal compressors are employed in a number of process engineering as well as turbocharging applications. Manufacturers of centrifugal compressors operate in a very competitive international market and rely on newest technology in order to maintain and to improve their market share. Consistent improvement of their technology is therefore crucial. This project addresses the requirement to undertake investigations into the field of blade vibration in a centrifugal compressor since there is a considerable lack of knowledge in this field. The experimentally acquired data are expected to give an insight into the underlying physical principals and magnitudes of blade vibration and damping, in order to better predict the influence of this process on component life, and improve design process. A model for the prediction of resonant response will be developed that would help designers within the design process
