Short description
(English)

The global IPM programme delivers a range of outputs designed to reduce poverty through increasing knowledge and productivity by economically, environmentally, socially and institutionally sustainable IPM measures. The project follows on from previous work supported by SDC, in which CABI provided a range of technical support inputs to a wide range of IPM stakeholders including the Global IPM Facility. Based on these previous experiences, the proposed programme will focus on viable alternative measures to replace misuse of hazardous pesticides in key smallholder crop systems of relevance to SDC priority countries. This supports the sustainable use of natural resources and impacts on income and employment in crop systems of value to small producers.

Project aims
(English)

The expected outcomes and impact of this programme include: case study-based policy guidance papers on feasibility of alternatives to pesticide dependence; discovery learning resources for participatory training; documentation of validated alternatives to pesticides for key pests in priority systems; local capacities developed in various approaches to discovery-based learning about IPM and development of locally-appropriate interventions; case documentation of experiences and impact of participatory IPM and international knowledge exchange.
