Seit Januar 2005 wird ein erstes Drittel der Zollkontingente beim Fleisch versteigert. Das bisherige System der Inlandleistung („prise en charge“) wird bis 2007 schrittweise abgelöst. Die Analyse zeigt, dass die Versteigerung zu mehr Wettbewerb und zu tieferen Margen führt. Konsumenten und Produzenten profitieren davon, die Unternehmen im Fleischsektor müssen ihre Strukturen anpassen, um ihre Wettbewerbsfähigkeit zu verbessern.

In January 2005 Switzerland started auctioning the first third of WTO-tariff quotas for meat. In the previous system quotas were allocated according to domestic purchasing requirements (“prise en charge”). It will be eliminated by the end of 2007. The analysis shows that the new regime has intensified competition in the domestic market. As a consequence, consumers and producers benefit from lower margins. The firms in the meat sector are forced to adapt their structures in order to improve their competitiveness.
