Die Erhaltung und Pflege der Kulturlandschaft sind neben der Erhaltung und Förderung der Artenvielfalt eine der gemeinwirtschaftlichen Aufgaben der Landwirtschaft. Die Abgeltung von Leistungen für die Pflege einer abwechslungsreichen und ansprechenden Kulturlandschaft wäre eine zusätzliche, bisher nicht ausgenutzte Möglichkeit für Direktzahlungen, setzt aber messbare Kriterien zur Beurteilung des Beitrages der Landwirtschaft voraus. Eine Überarbeitung der Landschaftsbildbewertungsmethode von Hoisl et al. (1989) ermöglicht es, diese als Standardmethode zur Beurteilung der Leistungen der Landwirtschaft für ein ansprechendes Landschaftsbild einzuführen. Da die Methode aus den 1980er Jahren stammt, basiert sie auf einem veralteten Wertsystem. Dieses soll im Rahmen des beantragten Projektes durch Befragungen an das heutige Wertsystem der Schweizer Bevölkerung angepasst werden.

The conservation and maintenance of cultivated landscapes and the conservation and promotion of biodiversity are a part of multifunctional agriculture. Compensation payments for services in landscape management lead to a diversified and aesthetically attractive landscape; these require measurable criteria to accommodate the public’s current appreciation of landscape aesthetics. One approach to assess the contribution of agriculture to the appearance of a landscape is the method used by Hoisl et al. (1989). However this method is based on the aesthetic valuation of landscapes twenty years ago, and may not reflect the contemporary preferences of people. To adapt the method of Hoisl et al. to the current aesthetic values of the Swiss public, we will carry out photo surveys with 2000 randomly selected residents and 400 farmers of the Swiss Plateau. Study participants will be asked to rank photographs of various agricultural crops as well as compensation areas (in isolation and in the context of the landscape) according to their aesthetic preference. Differences in the crops’ evaluation, the influence of the type of landscape (landscape dominated by arable crops / landscape dominated by grassland) on this ranking, and the influence of ecological compensation areas on the aesthetic value of a landscape will be studied.

Ziel des beantragten Projektes ist es, die Methode nach Hoisl et al. (1989) soweit auszubauen, dass sie es erlaubt, die Leistungen der Landwirtschaft für das Landschaftsbild nachvollziehbar messbar zu machen. Die ergänzte und überarbeitete Methode wird für den Einsatz in Landschaftsentwicklungskonzepten geeignet sein, um den jeweils aktuellen Zustand des Landschaftsbildes zu dokumentieren und realistische Ziele für das Landschaftsbild zu formulieren. Das Projekt erlaubt es, folgende Hauptfragen ganz oder teilweise zu beantworten:

1. Wie hoch ist die ästhetische Wertschätzung  der Bevölkerung für einzelne landwirtschaftliche Kulturen wie verschiedene Wiesentypen, Ackerkulturen und Hochstammobstgärten?
2. Beeinflussen Landschaftstyp (Ackerlandschaft oder Graslandschaft), Jahreszeit und sozio-demographische Eigenschaften der Befragten diese Wertschätzung?
3. Werden Kulturen in einer Graslandschaft im Mittelland anders bewertet als Kulturen in einer Graslandschaft im Berggebiet?

Objectifs du projet (Anglais)

The improved method of Hoisl et al. can be used as a standard-technique to assess agricultural services to enhance landscape aesthetics. The present study contributes to the development of tools for the promotion of a diversified landscape. It also provides substantiated arguments for political discussion concerning potential direct payments toward agricultural services to enhance landscape aesthetics. Main research questions are:

1. Which are the aesthetic qualities of land use types (grassland, high stem fruit trees, and different arable crops) according to the Swiss public (which is the most beautiful and which is the less beautiful crop?)
2. How does the type of landscape (landscape dominated by arable crops, landscape dominated by grassland, mixture of both) influence the aesthetic valuation of the crops?
3. Do ecological compensation areas influence the aesthetic valuation of the landscape?

Das Projekt ermöglicht es:

1. die Gewichtung der verschiedenen landwirtschaftlichen Kulturen zur Berechnung des Erlebnisfaktors ‚Naturnähe’ (siehe Hoisl et al., 1989) zu aktualisieren, d.h. an das derzei­tige schweizerische Wertsystem anzupassen,
2. fundierte Grundlagen für die Bewertung von Leistungen der Landwirtschaft im Bereich der Landschaftsästhetik bereitzustellen,
3. wissenschaftlich abgesicherte Empfehlungen für die Integration einer an den aktuellen Bedürfnissen der schweizerischenBevölkerung orientierten Landschaftsästhetik in Landschafts­entwicklungs­konzepte zu erarbeiten.
