COST-Action 285 - Modelling and Simulation Tools for Research in Emerging Multiservice Telecommunications
Kurzbeschreibung
(Englisch)
The project focus is development of a set of planning and analysis tools for multi-service communication networks. Network will be dimensioned taking quality of offered service set and user request properties as input parameters. The tools will provide simulations and analytic approaches for network analysis. The core network model will be based on photonic technologies combining packet and circuit switching while the access network will employ broadband wireless technology including cellular and ad-hoc paradigms. Various interconnection approaches between the access and core network will be investigated assuming a dynamic service provision with the quality of service constraints.

Abstract
(Englisch)
The purpose of this project is the development of a set of planning and analysis tools for multi-service photonic communication networks. These tools are aimed to assist the network dimensioning taking into account user demands and the required quality of service. Within the framework CANPC (Computer Aided Network Planning Cockpit), several network planning tools has been made at the Telecommunications laboratory (TCOM) of EPFL. Thus, software tools for dimensioning of WDM core photonic networks have been developed for both optical circuit switching and optical packet switching paradigms. Recently, in the COST Action 285 appeared that data exchange between various software compo-nents and tools represents a major issue in a multi-service environment. For that reason, a multi-layer network description (MND) format for communication networks aimed to facilitate the data ex-change between different tools has been proposed by EPFL. This network description relies on the extensible mark-up language (XML) which allows an increased flexibility and an improved visibility of relevant data.
