Die Standorte für Windkraftanlagen werden im Norden Deutschlands und anderen europäischen Ländern immer knapper. Das führt dazu, dass in zunehmendem Masse ältere Windkraftanlagen abgebaut und durch neuere grössere ersetzt werden. Die abgebauten Anlagen sind dabei normalerweise weniger als 10 Jahre alt, ihre Restlaufzeit beträgt somit nochmals rund 10 Jahre. Die abgebauten Windkraftanlagen werden als Occasionsanlagen angeboten. Im Rahmen des Kleinprojektes Retrofit-Konzept für ältere Windkraftanlagen wurde abgeklärt ob das bei Aventa-Anlagen eingesetzte Leichtwindkonzept den Wirkungsgrad dieser Anlagen für windschwache Standorte ggf. erhöhen könnte (u.a. mit Blattverstellmechanismus und Regelelektronik, Wechselrichter für drehzahlvariablen Betrieb der kleinen Generatorstufe, ev. Vollumrichtung). Da sich der Umsetzung dieses Ansatzes einige gewichtige Hürden im Weg stehen, wird die Idee nicht weiter verfolgt.

The sites for wind turbines run short in the north of Germany and other European countries. As a direct consequence more and more old wind turbines are replaced frequently by new and bigger installations. Usually, the dismantled turbines are less than 10 years old. That means that they have a residual time to maturity of 10 years. These wind turbines are being offered as sec-ond hand machines. Within the small project Retrofit-Konzept für ältere Windkraftanlagen it was clarified, if the Leichtwindkonzept (“concept of low wind speed”) - which was developed for Aventa wind turbines - could increase the efficiency of this installations on locations with low wind speeds (among others with pitch control, inverters for variable speed, etc.) It turns out that there are some substantial hurdles for the implementation of this idea: • The manifacturer don’t want to make the necessary documents available. • Hardly any bigger Windparks were built in der class up to 250 kW. There are many single units from a lot of different manifacturers in the second-hand market. That means that the effort for certification of these upgraded units is very high. However, certifications are requiered in the interesting markets (among others India und China). • When changes have been made to the installations, the guarantee of the insurance is not anymore warranted. Because of this very doubtful situation the idea will be abandoned.
