The Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of the Armed Forces (DCAF) is starting extensive research on the the issues of private military companies (PMCs). In this initial study, the DCAF assesses the role and impact of PMCs, analyses the adequacy of efforts to regulate these companies within the framework of democratic governance of the security sector, genenerates practical, policy relevant recommendations for future work in this area, draws conclusions for the government of Switzerland.
