Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
The goal of this project is to gain a deeper understanding of the organic pollutant decomposition when applying nano-structured materials. The workplan to achieve this objective involves: (i) optimization of particle semiconductors and supported semiconductors through test of their catalytic performance. Study of the structure-reactivity relation to improve the semiconductor performance. (ii) identification of the property (or properties) that increase the photocatalytic efficiency and stability of the semiconductor, mainly in the case of TiO2 (iii) modeling of the surface of TiO2 and their interaction with the organic compound in solution during the abatement process (iv) to coat inert surfaces with particles having high catalytic activity. The dimensions and crystallographic phase of the catalytic particles are optimized by EM and X-ray diffraction. These results are then correlated to the catalytic activity observed by the supported materials. The probe molecules to test the catalytic activity are: phenol, 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) and Orange II. (v) the materials selected for their catalytic properties are: TiO2, ZnO, WO3 and Fe2O3 and combinations thereof (vi) the selection of support materials and the technique of deposition involves the choice of inert materials and interfacial agents that allow to fix the catalytic particles on the support avoiding a) leaching and inducing and b) to attain acceptable kinetics of the catalytic reaction (vii) the metal oxide particles will be applied on the support from a) sol-gel preparations, b) from preformed powder with a defined crystallographic structure if the support material is not resistant enough and c) from a mixture of sol-gel and preformed powders.
