The aim of this project was to develop a method for the fabrication of nanocomposite materials and thin films based on the incorporation of inorganic nanoparticles in a block-copolymer matrix. During the project, PS-b-P2VP copolymers were used to create nanostructured thin films, which were then decorated with metallic nanoparticles. The nanoparticles bound preferentially to one or other of the two blocks to form dots or lines on the nanoscale. A short plasma treatment of the layer resulted in metal to metal contact between the particles. In this way conducting metallic lines less than 100nm wide and up to several microns long were formed.
