Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
The amount of data produced by the detectors of the LHC experiments at CERN, starting in 2007, will be of an unprecedented magnitude (tens of petabytes per year). So will the number of physics groups and their geographical dispersion. All this requires a new strategy for the computing infrastructure of high energy physics data analysis. The strategy chosen by CERN and its partners is to establish world-wide so-called computing and data Grids. In preparation for this, much research work has already been carried out by the many Grid projects in Europe and the US. The successful participation of Swiss physics research groups in LHC experiments mandates accessing data and computing resources with high bandwidth and thus building a national Grid infrastructure for high energy physics, connected to the global infrastructure being established by CERN and its partners. The present project aims at contributing to establishing this global infrastructure for the distribution, processing and analysis of LHC data and enabling Swiss physicists to utilise national and global resources for LHC data analysis.
