Fungi resistence of timber (Picea abies) was tested after several different thermal treatments. These treatments were: 1) oil-heat-treatment and 2) two different heat-treatments in nitrogene atmosphere. Tests were made with and without an artificial weathering. Also mechanical tests were made. The results show that there is an increase of fungi resistance against several types of rots and fungis. Partially the loss of mass of the treated timber was reduced to 1/10 of the not treated timber. The weathering doesn't influence this resistence in a negative way.The colours of the heat-treated timber is not stable to UV-radiation; but the oil-heat-treated timber seems to grey much slower.The mechanical properties of all the heat-treated timber had shown only a small loss of the MOE but a big loss of the mor (this for bending and tensile tests). Also the swelling can be extremly reduced by a heat-treatment.
