Strategic objectives addressed: Development and implementation of new funding instruments and joint European programmes in chemistry-based research
Project abstract:
ERA-CHEMISTRY aims at establishing a bottom-up European Research Area in curiosity-driven chemical research (including links to applied research) without noticeable national, formal and research subject boundaries by
· Setting up a common information system on reviewing and funding of chemical research in all European countries.
· Providing simple, effective and jointly agreed processing and evaluation schemes for all kinds of joint transnational proposals.
· Ascertaining innovative research fields which are particularly suitable for transnational research efforts and encouraging European chemists to initiate and reinforce transnational cooperation in joint research projects with high European added value.
· Setting-up of joint transnational electronic infrastructure facilities.
· Developing and implementing durable bottom-up joint European research programmes in chemistry in all degrees of complexity, including joint management of these programmes.
· Providing a framework for national (and -where suitable -regional) research councils to align part of their resources into chemistry-based transnational research programmes.
ERA-CHEMISTRY will comprise ten national research councils and funding agencies in Europe in charge of chemistry. The acting persons will be programme directors with administrative competence and responsibility for funding research and related postgraduate training in chemistry.
ERA-CHEMISTRY will contribute to implement the European Research Area by improving the coherence and co- ordination across Europe of such research programmes. It will also en-able national systems to solve problems collectively that they would not have been able to tackle independently.
