Abstract

Description of Work Area 'Elevators' (WA 6.3) of the sub-project 'Noise Reduction in Infrastructure'(AS 3)

Other noise sources exist in building among the noise induced by elevators is one of the most annoying ones. The noise induced by an elevator is given by several sources. One source is the noise and vibrations created by the engine transmission carrier. When considering high-speed elevators up to 14 m/s, the walls of the elevator starts vibrating and radiating noise. A third acoustic source is given by all ventilation and openings we have in an elevator shaft. The objective of the work area 'Elevators' (WA 6.3) will on active systems to reduce noise and vibration by using intelligent material systems and smart structure technology for small acoustic enclosures and vibration treatment. This work area is divided into 5 work packages dealing with designing active noise reduction systems for the three considered problems and their validation. Four of 5 work packages will start within the first 18 months.
