Short description
(English)
Mountain agriculture in the Maghreb region presents a real potential for improvement but has to cope with harsh environmental conditions. The latter are characterized by limited, fragile and highly degraded natural resources, low incomes and a high poverty rate. The Maghreb-Mountains project addresses these concerns: it is based on the sustainable intensification concept which underlines that intensification and/or diversification of agricultural production must be accomplished while preserving natural resources used in agricultural production and reducing poverty. Therefore, the project is aimed at sustainable improvement of the small holders' welfare in Maghreb mountain areas.
Project aims
(English)
Project Goal (Development Objective): Promotion of mountain agricultural production systems that alleviate poverty while preserving the natural resource base.
