Short description
(English)
There are continuing high levels of poverty (40-50%) in the upland areas of Lao PDR and Vietnam. Small agroenterprises can contribute to poverty alleviation through creating diverse income sources, providing improved access to markets, improving product quality, adding value to raw products and through intermediate processing. The project proposes to develop approaches to agroenterprise development at the district and community levels that are appropriate to the economic, cultural and political setting in Lao PDR and Vietnam.
Project aims
(English)
The project goal is "to develop sustainable private agroenterprise initiatives with upland rural communities that generate income and employment opportunities through diversifying and adding value to local natural resources".
The objectives are to:
- Identify and evaluate market opportunities for agroenterprise development through local stakeholder interest groups,
- Design and facilitate the implementation of agroenterprise initiatives with supply chain actors,
- Establish a strategy and local capacity for promoting agroenterprises and strengthening local business support services, and
- Institutionalize the agroenterprise development process at district, provincial and national levels.
