Adult stem cells are responsible for the growth and regeneration of all tissues in the body. The study of these cells in vitro is an important approach for investigators to understand their function, and thus lay the foundation for future therapeutics. However many types of adult stem cells are yet to be successfully cultured in vitro in the long term. The aim of this project is to develop long-term in vitro cultures of human epidermal stem cells, thus providing an important new tool for researchers, and another promising approach to the development of new therapeutics
