Synthisis of a new class of chiral dinuclear ruthenium complexes will be undertaken. These new materials (which will be characterized partially via diffusion measurements) will be tested as potential reagents for resolving racemic alkohols and amines.

Abstract

New Ruthenium (IV catalysts have been prepared and used in the regioselective homogeneous, allylic alkylation, amination and phenolation reactions. The source of the observed regioselectivity has been explained using DFT, NMR abd X-ray studies. A new catalysed Friedel-Crafts reaction has been discovered.
