Résumé des résultats (Abstract)

The main objective of the Action was to increase the availability of next generation telecommunication network services and equipment to elderly people and people with disabilities by design or, alternatively, by adaptation when required. In cases where this could not be achieved, the Action aimed at promoting the establishment of appropriate supplementary assistive services and equipment. The project carried out within the framework of this the Action, 'Accessibility Testing and Guidelines' was originally divided into three parts. Following the reduction in budget for the project it was decided to entrust the first part 'Testing for Accessibility', which incorporates the actual testing of equipment and services, to the other partners of the Action, as outlined in our letter of the 15th of January 2004. The main effort was therefore focused on the two remaining parts, 'Editing of guidelines and COST 219ter book' and 'Swiss National Reference Group'. The main activity of the Action during the 4th year of the Action was the drafting and editing of the COST 219ter book 'Towards an Inclusive Future - Impact and wider potential of information and communication technologies', in which the Swiss representative, Patrick Roe was heavily involved as the main editor. The book was launched at the conference 'Extending Horizons - Accessibility to next generation networks' held in London on the 16th of January 2007. The main activities of the additional (fifth) year were the writing of two glossy booklets and the preparation of the final conference, which was held in Brussels on the 7th of February 2008. The majority of the work on the accessibility testing procedure was carried out during the first three years of the Action within WG3 (Testing for Accessibility). However, a consultation process was launched during the final period which enabled the accessibility toolkit to be further refined. The findings and results were published in one of the chapters of the COST 219ter Book 'Towards an Inclusive Future'. Co-ordination within Switzerland has continued at an informal level, both through presentations at workshops, informal discussions and through dissemination of the book and booklets.
