Abstract
(English)
The availability of the complete sequence of Arabidopsis thaliana and the development of powerful tools for functional genomics provide a unique opportunity to approach major questions in plant biology in a whole-system, integrative manner. The coined power of genetics -both classical and quantitative-, molecular bio logy and biochemistry allows the emergence of an integrative plant biology able to give a unified perspective on gene function, from cells to organs and whole plants. The proposed program involves state-of-the-art training in these fields, based on the various complementary resources and expertises available in the participating laboratories.

Resources available include Arabidopsis mutant libraries (both EMS- and T-DNA insertion populations) and mutant lines, a large collection of >200 Arabidopsis natural ecotypes, large recorobinant-inbred mapping populations for QTL analysis, and other biological materials for positional cloning, mutant analysis, expression profiling etc. These resources will be made available to students willing to receive training in the area of expertise of the various research groups constituting this consortium: functional genomics technologies, dynamics of plant genomes and gene silencing, various aspects of plant growth and development (seed biology, hormones, cytoskeleton and cell wall, flower biology and gametogenesis, cell cycle and meristem activity, phloem development, plant architecture) and nitrogen metabolism.
