Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
This concerted action will create a network of national veterinary reference laboratory in Europe and establish a surveillance system for monitoring the occurrence and emergence of antibiotic resistance among bacteria from food animals. An external quality control for the capability of laboratories to perform susceptibility testing of bacteria correctly will be performed. Different bacterial strains with known susceptibility patterns will be sent four times each year to the different laboratories for testing and the results entered into a central database. Each year the data generated in the individual laboratories will be collected centrally and a report on the occurrence of antibiotic resistance among the different bacterial species isolated from food animals will be generated and published.

The main objective of this concerted action is to improve the quality of the data obtained with the monitoring of antimicrobial resistance among food animals in the Europear; union and utilise the results already available.

The specific objectives are to:
1.Create a network of national veterinary reference laboratories in the EU-membersstates;
2. Harmonise the susceptibility testing of bacteria from food animals in European veterinary reference laboratories;
3. Collect and evaluate the susceptibility data from these laboratories. Make comparable results available for the public and decision-makers.
