Abstract
(English)
The objective of the NETMED Project is to set up a Virtual Institute structure aimed at facilitating the access to and the rapid exploitation of RTD results in the field of micromechatronics (MM) for applications in the biomedical sector. N ETMED will promote and advance the science and multidisciplinary technologies of MM for the biomedical sector by means of dedicated seminars, training courses, and focused meetings between technology providers and users. NETMED will be a very market-oriented consortium, with a strong problem-solving, application-pulled attitude, aiming at proactively contacting potential users in the biomedical sector, interpreting their needs and providing the best possible services by exploiting MM technologies.

NETMED aims at growing an effective methodology (including dedicated seminars, training courses, and focused meetings between technology providers and users) for facilitating the access of users to MM, and to implement purpose-designed services, based on advanced competences and technologies, to successfully accomplish the incorporation of these technologies in existing and new industrial products. The scientific/training support on MM and the type of services (consultancy, design and manufacturing) offered by NETMED should be as 'complete' as possible to make the Virtual Institute a one-stop shop for users looking for innovative (and marketable) solutions. The methodology will be exploited by the Consortium for a self-sustained activity beyond the duration of NETMED.
