Abstract
(Englisch)
This proposal is based on previous activities and achievements obtained within the Europractice initiative concerning the Competence Centre for Biomedical Microdevices (INTECS). MEDICS' network of contacts to key players in the biomedical community has been expanded, different information services have been provided, workshops were carried out. We propose to carry on with these efforts by continuing the successful information services, by providing access to and support for essential polymer-based and silicon-based microtechnologies for biomedical microdevices, by attracting new customers for biomedical microdevices. Information services include access to user-adapted and user-friendly databases and web search engines containing information on European biomedical & microtechnological service providers and users (products, components, services).

Objectives:
MICROMEDICS' objective is to stimulate, facilitate and accelerate the take-up of microtechnologies, microcomponents, microsystems and miniaturised subsystems for biomedical & bioanalytical product developments and applications to the benefit of the European biomedical community.

Different measures are foreseen in order to: enhance awareness on existing technologies and markets, attract new customers, disseminate information to the European biomedical community, provide 'Easy Access Support' in consultancy, feasibility assessment, CAD-design and information research, promote and disseminate microelectrode & telemetry systems, implantable stimulators and packaging & interconnection technologies as key components/technologies so as to stimulate application oriented R&D & contract research, enhance the exchange of information and expertise between users and suppliers. The goal is to become financially independent from the EC-support in the long run.

Work description:
Dissemination and raising awareness: Updates of the web page describing the services of MICROMEDICS will be carried out. An email-newsletter will be sent quarterly to continuously increasing and application specific target groups in Europe. Information material will be prepared and delivered as a first information. One workshop will be organised to enhance the information exchange between suppliers and users. MICROMEDICS' services will be presented on conferences and at exhibitions. Links will be established to European associations and networks.
Modular demonstration models: Different modular demonstration models will be built up that show availability and modularity of components and the integration into complete biocompatible systems. The demonstration models will be used to support MICROMEDICS' dissemination activities and proactive contacts.
Proactive customer acquisition: MICROMEDICS will contact and visits potential customers within selected target groups in order to attract new customers for biomedical microdevices throughout Europe.
Customer support: 'Easy Access Support' concerning feasibility assessment and CAD-design of polymer-based microcomponents and a service for access to technology and information will be offered free of charge to European device manufacturers and end users in order to gain customers for MICROMEDICS' commercial services.
Internet information: MICROMEDICS will expand the biomedical database and biomedical web search engine as the European platform for specialised, already filtered information access on microtechnologies and microcomponents for the development of innovative biomedical devices.
Co-operation/clustering: MICROMEDICS will support the overall EUROPRACTICE activities and will use EUROPRACTICE to enhance its activities.
Exploitation: Market segmentations and strategy plans will be prepared.
Scientific co-ordination: Co-ordination tasks within MICROMEDICS will stimulate co-oerative actions and services.
