Abstract
(English)
DEMOTEC-A aims to establish a network of experts with the purpose to develop indicators and framework for an international observation system for comparative assessment of the state of preservation of cultural heritage sites. The main objective is to initiate the development of a European monitoring system that establishes links between the various scales of monitoring performed on in situ cultural heritage sites today. These most often are a landscape scale, a monuments scale and a decorated surface of monuments scale. The basic innovative idea of the project is to develop a better understanding of how data obtained in different scales relate to each other and how to data from different disciplines can be integrated into one monitoring system with a maximum of inherent information at a reasonable prize.

DEMOTEC -A aims to develop the first international observation system for comparative assessment of the state of preservation of cultural heritage sites. The main objective is to develop a European monitoring system by providing co-ordinated indicators that help assess and predict the development of cultural heritage preservation states, while aiding management and creating public awareness f or cultural heritage quality. The project is formulated in line with EU policy and Objectives as seen for example in ESDP - European Spatial Development Perspective 1999, and to help implement intentions in the European Landscape Convention (2000). Through collaboration among an initiator group of European management and research institutions it is the intention aided by open workshops to establish a network of competent institutions that can approach the complex challenge of establishing a framework for cultural heritage monitoring at a European an d International level.
