Abstract
(Englisch)
The projected network aims at improving care for patients with hepatic or portal vein thrombosis through recommendations based on scientific evidence regularly up-dated by the scientific results gained by the project. A board will gather 10 world-leading experts from 9 countries, with overlapping expertise. The board will federate 9 specific national networks acting as well as for data collection, as for counselling individual professionals or patients. Communication will be through a dedicated website. Data exploitation will target clarification of aetiology and assessment of therapy; it will include planning for future clinical studies on project-raised hypotheses, and basic research on registered samples. The whole network, database, and sample register should become permanent through the active search for other funding. This project is intended to be used as a template to be adapted for other networks on similarly rare and severe disorders.

Hepatic and portal vein thrombosis are rare and severe disorders affecting young adults. Coming from the rarity of these disorders, poor scientific knowledge and lack of awareness explain that therapy is often delayed or inappropriate. Information of the public is lacking. The project's goal are
(i) to gather a pan el word-leading experts in order to elaborate and disseminate management recommendations and public information;
(ii) to elaborate priorities and methodology for investigations;
(iii) to set up and make all possible scientific use of a database and a sample bank;
(iv) to strengthen national networks where they exist and help at implementing them elsewhere; and to operate them as well as for results, recommendations , and information dissemination or counselling, as for data collection;
(v) to implement a website for internal and external communication;
(vi) to search for permanent funding of the whole network, database, sample registry, and website.
