Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
The main objective of the proposal is to advance the level and to widen the scope of research performed in Poland in the field of physics of condensed matter, in particular of low dimensional structures which are of importance for future electronics, and to increase the contribution of Polish physicists to general progress of this branch. Second, equally important, objective is to increase the level of knowledge of modern physics within the society in order to further the understanding of the significance of research for development of economy. In particular, it is intended to contribute to an increase of the level of scholarisation in Poland. Third objective is to enhance the bilateral and multilateral relations with scientists from other European research institutions, thus contributing to the process of Europe's unification.

Centre of Excellence in the Institute of Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences, active in the field of condensed matter physics is proposed. Its main objectives are preparation (using modern techniques, e.g. MBE) and research of novel low- dimensional materials considered for application in electronics of the next century (e.g. multilayers, spin-structures, quantum dots and low dimensional superconductors), in collaboration, established several years ago, with several foreign centres, e.g. with DESY at Hamburg. The Centre would strengthen the international collaboration by organisation of International Conferences (e.g. Workshop on Solid State Computing, Workshop on Processing of Semiconductor Structures), organising with other European centres mutual research stays and trainings for scientists and students. The centre is engaged in education of physics via the College of Science) and popularisation of physics.

WP 1 Workshop on Electronic Material Nanostructures: Fabrication and Characterisation
WP 2 Workshop on Solid State Quantum Computing
WP 3 Workshop on Low Dimensional and Hybrid Structures Made of Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors
WP 4 Workshop on MBE Growth Physics and Technology
WP 5 Symposia on New Methods of Low Dimensional Structures Characterisation: VU V, X-ray and Electron Spectroscopies
WP 6 Measurements of semiconductor structures in foreign laboratories and streng thening of collaboration with European Centres
WP 7 Strengthening co-operation with European Centres involved in studies of metallic thin films and multilayers
