Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
This project assesses the potential role of food supply chains (FSC) in enhancing sustainable food production and rural development by:
1) identifying critical points in FSC's which currently constrain the further dissemination of sustainable production and;
2 ) recommend actions that are likely to enhance the prospects for sustainable food markets.

In-depth case studies of FSC's in different European regions will be conducted to obtain a better understanding of the diversity of the dynamics and socio-economic performance of FSC's. Specific attention will be given to factors related to the organisational and governance structure of FSC's, the socio-economic performance and impact of FSC's and the institutional context of FSC's. The project will result in policy recommendations to public institutions at different levels to overcome the bottlenecks in the food chain that inhibit the wider development of markets for sustainable products.
