Abstract
(Englisch)
The EMINENT project aims at representing the European micro/nano SME's in different governmental and business oriented forums on a European level, ensure regional representation of micro/nano SME's and, more generally, on helping those SME's with different aspects of their business through these regionally organised channels. Furthermore EMINENT aims at creating a platform for easy access from and to all parties in the NMST-triangle (nano/micro, micro system technologies NMST) product supply - product demand - technology and knowledge supply. EMINENT will be a virtual Thematic Network, a Network initiating prosperous new activities at a European level, where its members, with the least possible overhead, mainly will do the actual work.

Objectives:
The main objectives of EMINENT are:
1. Accelerating B2B activities in order to strengthen global competiveness for mainly European NMST SME's;
2. Setting up relations with all kind of business related institutions in the supply chain, thus creating routes towards new business opportunities for SME's;
3. Representing the micro/nano SME points of view in all relevant EU forums (and so becoming the logical point of address on micro/nano related topics for the EU);
4. Initiating the start-up of regional micro/nano SME organisations in the important micro/nano regions of the EU;
5. Creating a business/organisation related skill and knowledge pool of successful activities and spreading these activities in Europe through the member organisations, to support micro/nano SME's in their development and the acceleration of their global business activities;
6. Dissemination of the EMINENT project results and contribution of NMST for enrichment of the old economy.

Work description:
Preparation of a virtual European NMST (Nano/micro and Micro System Technology) network, that strongly supports the access of (mainly) NMST SME's to the global market, exploring the non-regional potentials of regional organisations and their synergy potential (identify all European players (including NAC's), contact them and generate support and active participation in the development of the virtual Network); formulate ways to successfully implement tools and activities with both business and organisational focus; define the specifications for -the set-up and exploitation of- a technology-competence-product-market B2B expert system; identify the virtual networks potential and design routes to realise this potential; to form an expanding nucleus of the foreseen virtual network (in the first 15 months from six to at least 10 members) in which experience and knowledge can be built and from which expansion (during the 6th FP period) towards a full-scale Network can be facilitated and new kind of European activities can be initiated; development of a roadmap to achieve a self-financing status of the NMST platform within the 6th FP period; organising conferences; define strategies to support the NMST paradigm change and the flow of this information to the old economy; generate business from earlier funded MNST project portfolio; organise and support the reuse of successful regional activities; EU representation of NMST interests; explore the synergy potential of the regional NMST organisations; link up with already existing European initiatives and -if necessary- adapt processes to enable easier access for than virtual network participants to these initiatives.

Milestones:
Report/overview other networks; mobilisation of total European NMST field; better perspective inside EU forums on needs of NMST (and especially SME) field; start of the activities within the virtual network in a kick-off workshop. Realisation of a transparent information flow between the members and the vertical supply chain; organising 2 European specific technology/product/market B2B workshops and strong involvement within the COMS 2003 conference with high level SME contribution in the programme and exhibition; Building the essential framework for the EMINENT virtual network; Set-up of a strongly linking website of EMINENT participants, containing most important partners (SME's, big industry, institutes); specifications for an expert system.
