Abstract
(English)
Considering that the flux of methane to the atmosphere is considerable in the Black Sea, the project will focus on the effects on the atmosphere of the release of methane resulting from high-intensity outbursts which ascent in the water column. The fate of methane will be traced from its origin in the sub-bottom sediments through its ascent in the water column until its escape into the atmosphere, and the methane budget will be established. Finally, the effects of high-intensity seeps on the stability of the water column will be quantified, and the influence of methane escape on the composition of the atmosphere will be modelled.
