Abstract
(English)
This project focuses on effects of radiation, wind and wetting of clothing layers on the thermal strain experienced in Personal Protective Clothing. Heat transfer through PPC with different radiant and moisture transport properties will be studied. Data are then used to derive general models of heat transfer through PPC in relation to clothing material properties, climate. Also a model predicting metabolic load of the PPC from the PPC properties (weight, stiffness) will be developed. Data will be obtained from material test, thermal manikins and human subject tests, combining the advantages of the three levels in terms of cost, realism and control. Resulting data and models will be disseminated to standard writers (PPC product standards and thermal stress, and strain assessment standards) and to producers and users of PPC.
