The project relates to new advanced smart materials characterized by a self- tunable and adaptive activity to be applied as novel catalytic devices for the removal of NO(x) in car exhaust emissions containing oxygen (lean burn and diesel engines ) and novel highly sensitive NO(x) sensors able to operate with oxygen concentrations up to 20%.

The main objectives are to:
(i) reach a NO(x) reduction higher than 50% in the presence of oxygen;
(ii) develop NO(x) sensors which can detect NO(x) in concentrations lower than 100 ppm even in the presence of O(2);
(iii) demonstrate the techno-economical feasibility and advantages of combining and integrate NO(x) sensors and catalysts controlled and promoted by non-faraidic electrochemical effect, and;
(iv) show the feasibility of developing smart catalytic device for a range of different applications.
