Perfomance Assessment and Coexistence Issues of Ultra-Wideband Radio Systems (PACURS)
Abstract
(English)
Ultra-wideband radio (UWB) is a novel technology for wireless communication system design. The distinguishing elements of UWB systems are the use of low transmit power and very high bandwidth (several Gigahertz) with legacy systems already operating within the same band. The high temporal resolution and benign multipath behavior result in communication and positioning capabilities significantly exceeding those of existing wideband systems. The goal of the proposed project is to explore application scenarios for UWB systems, assess their performance compared to conventional narrow- and wideband systems, and investigate the problems related to coexistence with mobile telephony and wireless local area networks (WLAN).
