Description succincte
(Anglais)
A small set of diseases and conditions constitute the major disease burden in developing countries, resulting in the premature death of more than 15 million people each year. The vast majority of this disease burden is preventable. Effective and often cheap interventions exist to address the underlying diseases and conditions, however, they are often not accessible for the individuals in need. The relation between the Millennium Development Goals and the availability and requirements of human resources in the health sector is analysed.
Objectifs du projet
(Anglais)
The project investigates the human resource implications of expanding the coverage of priority health interventions in selected African countries. Human resource requirements at current (2002) and expanded coverage levels of priority interventions (2015) are estimated in comparison with current and future human resource availability. Human resource requirements are modelled based on need, service coverage, intervention specific tasks characterized by skill level and time requirements and staff productivity. Estimates of human resource availability build on human resource census data. Future human resource availability are estimated as a function of training capacity and attrition. In addition, human resource related constraints for scaling-up are analysed.
