Description succincte (Anglais)

This proposal represents the 4th core contribution to the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) UK based organisation for a new three-year cooperation agreement (2003-6), building on the External Review's recommendations and recent meetings between SDC and IIED representatives in London and Berne.
IIIED helps to understand the interaction between market, environment and social concerns through practical and detailed studies. IIED's analysis on international market negotiations (WTO) has been extremely inspiring to develop the Swiss position ion these key issues.

Objectifs du projet (Anglais)

The key lessons emerging from this work will be made available to SDC and its partners in the form of Policy Briefing Papers, in-country workshops and meetings with IIED staff and collaborators. Specific deliverables for SDC will include outputs from three thematic areas over the grant period:
1. Market restructuring and liberalisation: opportunities and threats for producers, workers and environment
2. The small-scale private sector: engaging the "messy middle" in sustainable development
3. Environmental Service Markets: for poverty reduction, not for their own sake.
