Abstract
(English)
The project TONIC aims at the techno-economic evaluation of service and related network evolution strategies. It focuses on 2 main areas: the fix broadband access and the mobile broadband access and refined the studies made from 1.1.01 to 31.10 .01. The following studies have then been done:
- Economical comparison of 'UMTS only' and 'UMTS + WLAN' strategies for MNOs in small and large countries.
- Economical viability study of 'UMTS only' and 'UMTS + WLAN' strategies for MVNOs in small and large countries.
- Economical comparison of 'ATM based FSAN' and 'Ethernet' in the access network for providing fix broadband access
- Evaluation of the economical consequences (subsidizing) of providing broadband access in non competitive areas.
To achieve these goals, many network architectures and market figures have been developed and a workshop on techno-economic issues has been organized in Rennes.
