Abstract
(English)
In support of the European post-Kyoto policy, the GREENGRASS project will measure the net global warming potential resulting from the exchange of CO(2), N(2)O and CH(4) with managed European grasslands and assess the European wide mitigation potential of key field and farm management scenarios. Long-term micrometeorological measurements at sites in a European wide network will be complemented by experimental assessment of the effects of management options on net fluxes.

The results will be used to refine emission factors used in national inventories and to evaluate farm-level mitigation scenarios with respect to the net global warming potential associated to grassland management. These evaluations will be conducted at the field and farm level, and by up-scaling simulation results to the Europe scale.
