The scientific objective is to analyse and describe the mechanisms of minimum lubrication of topographically micro-structured surfaces at high contact pressure in metal forming processes. The main deliverable will be a coating deposition process, which can be used to produce hard coatings with such microstructures. The project responds to the societal needs: reduces waste, promotes use of bio- degradable lubricants, assists use of recyclable materials, retains and creates new jobs in metal industry, and improves quality of life. The technical objective is to reduce up to 99% the amount of lubricants in metal forming, control friction coefficient and to develop an industrial deposition technology for the in -process structuring of hard coatings, which is cost-competitive to existing PV D deposition processes.
