Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
The EMBER project aims to produce a series of educational materials to help in the teaching of introductory courses in bioinformatics. These materials consist of formal lectures, illustrations (including animations), exercises, Q&A sessions, etc. The deliverables of the project include a book suitable as a textbook for formal classroom education, a CD-ROM capable of delivering more interactive content, and a Web site maintained by Consortium members and updated to reflect the latest developments in the field.
The role of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) in the EMBER project is to collate textual material that will provide the basic underpinnings of the project. Because of its extensive experience in teaching courses for both biology students and Bioinformatics MSc candidates, the SIB seemed ideally placed to provide 'framework' materials. These materials were solicited from teachers active in the various modules of the SIB MSc program, as well as from people from other partner institutions. Chapters were produced on proteomics, ontologies for bioinformatics, phylogeny, transcriptomics, and genomic analysis. Additional chapters dealing with algorithmics and molecular modelling are expected soon.
This material is currently being edited to conform to a common style and level of understanding on the part of the intended audience of the EMBER project.
