The project adresses the link between the proliferation of small arms/light weapons and urban violence and crime. Though guns do not in themselves create an environment of human insecurity, the easy availability of guns encourages violence to settle interpersonal disputes and helps to make crime appear a winning proposition.

The project adresses the link between the proliferation of small arms/light weapons and urban violence and crime. Though guns do not in themselves create an environment of human insecurity, the easy availability of guns encourages violence to settle interpersonal disputes and helps to make crime appear a winning proposition. The project includes a meta-analysis of existing research on the small arms/violence linkage in urban settings, synthesizes best practices knowledge in this area, and proposes directions for future research.
